The University of Bologna, also known as Alma Mater, is considered the oldest academic institution in the Western world, being born around 1088. With over 260 study programs, the university is committed to promoting research as an essential tool to strengthen community social responsibility and to encourage the application of the principles of equity, sustainability, inclusion and respect for diversity, in line with the UN Agenda 2030 for sustainable development goals and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Alma Mater is divided into 5 campuses and has an office abroad to promulgate its educational offer and conduct consistent research activities in the territory. It has 50 structures engaged in research, including 31 departments, 12 research and training centers and 7 interdepartmental and industrial research centers.

Cosa facciamo

The Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences (DIMEC) is the largest department in the healthcare sector of the Italian university, characterized by an impressive structure in terms of size, scientific production and clinical excellence that integrates all aspects of biomedical and translational research. It is leader, at a european level, for biomedical and translational research including the various aspects of prevention, diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation, as well as for training in these areas. The Policlinico di S.Orsola is the nerve centre for research, training and assistance activities of the lecturers of the New DIMEC which is expanding its activity within the AUSL of Romagna region. DIMEC maintains solid collaboration with the other branches of the University of Bologna and with the stakeholders of the social-health field among which the Emilia Romagna region, the IRCCS AOU of Bologna Policlinico di Sant’Orsola, the AUSL of Bologna and the Romagna regions and Patients’ Associations.
