Territories
Abruzzo region
3 national and 1 regional parks, one protected marine area and over 30 nature reserves with a record that makes it the largest naturalistic area in Europe and the authentic green heart of the Mediterranean. ARTA is the implementing body of the Project: “Abruzzo, Region of Well-being”, it has developed a specification that constitutes a point of reference for the development of guidelines and training activities; these, support a green infrastructure certification process that meets the requirements to create those multifunctional places that reach VeBS goals.
Calabria region
Calabria Region
Calabria is one of the territorial districts with the highest percentage of forest area and includes 3 national parks (Pollino, Sila, Aspromonte), 1 regional park (park of Serre), 4 nature reserves (Foce del Fiume Crati, Lago di Tarsia, Valli Cupe, Foce del Fiume Mesima), 1 marine protected area (Capo Rizzuto), 1 regional marine park (as an amalgamation of 5 regional marine parks: ‘Costa dei Gelsomini’, “Riviera dei Cedri”, “Scogli di Isca”, “Secca di Amendolara”, ’Fondali di Capocozzo – S. Irene, Vibo Marina – Pizzo, Capo Vaticano – Tropea’, “Bay of Soverato”).
The ‘Ciclovia dei Parchi’, which covers 545 km, is an example that combines contact with nature, physical activity and sustainable tourism, as is the Valle del Neto cycle route on which one pedals for 42 km (38+4) along the ancient mule track on the banks of the Neto River.
The blue areas include 4 nature reserves, 5 regional marine parks and the Capo Rizzuto marine protected area, which will be a reference point for the development of all 4 project objectives with particular reference to training and communication activities aimed at citizens of all ages.
Emilia Romagna region
In the territories of Romagna and Parma, the operational units and the Universities of the region, have had previous experience of collaborations with local authorities regarding urban and peri-urban greenery, reforestation, monitoring, mitigation of pollutants, and interaction with health facilities for the delivery of correct information to citizens.
The new activities within the VeBS project will be based on these previous experiences.
In the Ravenna area, the collaboration between the University of Bologna and the Romagna AUSL has allowed the establishment of an Internal Medicine Unit focused on aging and frailty, equipped with the necessary expertise to assess the effects of environmental parameters on the most vulnerable people.
Lazio region
According to ISTAT 2013 data, approximately 3% of the surface of Rome is covered by green areas, with a predominance of asphalt and densely built surfaces especially in the central and eastern quadrant of the city, while the other provinces are characterized by a lower share of greenery (0.3% in Viterbo and Rieti, 0.6% in Latina, 2.7% in Frosinone).
Rome is launching a case study on the connections between environment, climate and health in the area of the former SNIA Lake Natural Monument and the Energy Park located in the Pigneto-Prenestino district in Rome.
